s/t 7" EP 2004 reviews

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #266
There seems to be a resurgence in straight-ahead, catchy, mid-tempo punk rock, like all the hardcore kids realized that there was more to life than playing 1000mph through a heavy distortion pedal. PEDESTRIANS features ex-members of other bands that sounded different but this EP has four songs that pack a punch while still being catchy enough to have you humming them all day. I'm all for this.

RAZORCAKE #28
Sometimes I think I shouldn't write record reviews because when I really like something, I have a tendency to fall back on saying "this is rad" like I'm about to do right now: This record is rad. An Effigies comparison fits pretty well: inventive, plowing drums; guitars that sound thick and heavy without being slow or thugish; and vocals that are forceful but still intelligible. It's more raw and modern and doesn't have the post-punk leanings of songs like "Security" but it's definately prototypical broad-shouldered, mid-tempo Chicago punk. An amazing debut by a band that hopefully we'll hear much more from in the near future.
